more about the Lawn care treatments

The incorrect product or treatment applied at the wrong time of year or in the wrong weather conditions can produce disappointing results and do more harm than good. As such the seasonal treatments shown below are adapted and changed in line with the seasons and the varied weather that we experience in the UK.

Spring marks the start of the lawn care season. As winter gives way to springtime soil tempertures start to rise and there is usually plenty of moisture about which means that grass and lawn weeds, especially lawn weeds, start to grow more vigorously. Many nutrients will have leached out of the soil over the winter months and your lawn will require the right mixture and amount of nutrients to take full advantage of the growing conditions. Our spring treatment, like all our treatments, varies depending on when in the season it is applied and on whether the lawn has been previously treated or not. A lawn that has had regular lawn care will be in pretty good shape although after winter new weeds will have appeared and there may be some new moss present. Typically a granular fertiliser will be spread and a selective herbicide, suitable for the weeds showing, sprayed over the entire lawn. If there is moss present then some liquid moss control may also be applied. It is best to keep off the lawn for about 2 hours after the application of the herbicide or moss control.

With increasingly  varied weather patterns the british summer can, these days,  present many a challenge but in general we encourage the grass to thicken and green up whilst the more troublesome weeds have to be dealt with so as to not ruin the lawns appearance. Since we can experience a wide range of conditions, wet and warm weather, long periods of high heat or just wet the choice of fertiliser is key. Once again a granular fertiliser will be used in most instances together with a broad spectrum selective herbicide. It is best to keep off the lawn for about 2 hours after the application of the herbicide.

Over autumn the treatment focuses on grass root development, toughening the grass for winter and the start of moss control together with further weed control if required. Most regularly treated lawns will not require any weed control or perhaps just spot treating if there are only a handful of weeds present. If this is the lawns first ever treatment or treatment was only started in the summer then a selective herbicide, suitable for the weeds showing, will be sprayed over the entire lawn. A granular fertliser will be used and a moss control applied. If the lawn is to be scarified in the autumn then this treatment will be altered and no herbicide will be used since new grass seed may need to be sown. It is best to keep off the lawn for about 2 hours after the application of the herbicide or moss control.

During the winter months moss can take over and ruin the look of your lawn especially in areas with clay soil. This winter treatment not only feeds the grass with important trace elements as well as hardening it against disease but also reduces moss and helps inhibit its growth. Although our winter moss treatment will help control the moss in your garden, dead moss does not decompose easily and the lawn may require scarifying to remove the dead moss and create space for grass growth in the spring. It is best to keep off the lawn for about 2 hours after the application of the moss control.
